Johnny Thorsen joins northern Europe’s largest meeting space marketplace Gaest.com as a strategic advisor, bringing with him years of travel industry know-how and experience within the emerging field of AI.
Thorsen, a Dane who currently resides in Silicon Valley, is the Vice President of Travel Strategy and Partnership at the artificial intelligence-powered startup Mezi. In 2010, he was named as one of the 25 most influential people in the business travel industry by Business Travel News.
“I’m excited about becoming a strategic advisor for Gaest.com and helping them expand their business globally,” says Thorsen, who has spent the most of his career innovating within the business travel industry. “The team has shown an uncanny ability to disrupt and innovate the traditional way of discovering and booking meeting spaces, and I simply couldn’t resist being a part of that exciting journey.”
Danish founded Gaest.com launched last year with the ambition of revolutionizing the way people meet by making it faster and easier to list, discover and book creative meeting spaces. Quickly becoming the leading marketplace for meeting spaces, the Aarhus, Denmark based startup has since expanded to Copenhagen as well as other Nordic capitals, including Stockholm and Oslo and has entered the UK market bringing the number of meeting spaces to a whopping 3,000.
Anders Mogensen, CEO and Co-founder of Gaest.com, is thrilled to have someone with Thorsen’s experience and AI insight join the company: “As a MeetTech company, we’re leveraging technology to challenge the status quo, and with an AI frontrunner like Johnny Thorsen, we’ll be able to use his knowledge and insights to set new standards in further developing the future of this industry.”
When speaking of the mashup between MeetTech and AI, Mogensen adds, “harnessing the power of AI will help us craft more personalized experiences and design “interface-less” products. Think about how fun and effective it could be to have something like an intelligent chatbot to book your meetings for you. And that it gets smarter and more personalized the more you use it is what keeps us working late into the night.”
Before joining Mezi, Thorsen gained popularity as the Co-founder and CEO of conTgo Ltd, a company that focuses on “point of experience” mobile travel software for corporate and security management. ConTgo was acquired by Concur in 2013 and in 2016 Johnny joined SAP Mobile Services where he held the positions Senior Director of Value Services until he joined Mezi in May 2017.
