The Danish way to meet

For nearly 25 years, The Phocuswright Conference has showcased the most successful and cutting-edge companies in the travel industry. This year, the brand new meeting space marketplace called has been invited to introduce the ‘the Danish way to meet’.

Florida, November 6th, 2017 The Phocuswright Conference takes place between November 7-9 in Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, Florida. This event will gather nearly 1,800 of the global travel industry's top decision-makers, including KAYAK, TripAdvisor and Danish Silicon Valley innovator Johnny Thorsen from - as well as Danish newcomer,

The Danes are coming

Let us be honest, this is by no means the first time Danes have travelled to the States with strong business concepts. So it should be no surprise that The Phocuswright Conference has a strong Danish presence. Take for example the VP for Travel Strategy & Partnerships at - and Dane - Johnny Thorsen. He’s held numerous key positions with major travel companies and was once voted one of the 25 most influential people in the business travel industry. Thorsen has seen ideas and innovations come and go in the corporate travel business. What he sees in his fellow Danes, however, is a platform that stands a great chance of making a significant contribution to the corporate travel industry, adding:

“I am attending The Phocuswright Conference to hear about the latest trends and innovations in the travel industry. One of the key trends at present is how companies are increasing their use of sharing economy services and technology. is an exciting new concept with the potential to become the "Airbnb of corporate meetings” as they provide an open marketplace for companies and individuals to connect and list both existing meeting rooms as well as alternative meeting locations. also makes it incredibly easy for the meeting organisers to compare options and select the perfect venue for their next meeting.”

Inherently Danish, inherently disruptive, who’ve recently been named as one of Denmark’s top ten businesses to watch, have been invited to speak at The Phocuswright Conference for the first time since their platform offers something new and potentially disruptive for the corporate travel business. Also, there seems to be something inherently Danish about being disruptive. Co-founder and CEO of, Anders Boelskifte Mogensen, who is attending the conference, suggests that the meeting space platform offers business travellers and businesses professionals more than just a way to find suitable meeting venues or rent out meeting spaces. offers companies a different way to hold meetings altogether:

“We have become the largest online meeting space marketplace in northern Europe, in part because we foster the idea that companies and business travellers can benefit significantly from hosting meetings off-site in both traditional and non-traditional meeting spaces. And we say: why do meetings always have to be so formal and rigid? Why not have a meeting on an upcycled ferry? By approaching meetings much the same way we approach life in Denmark, we enable business professionals to make meetings more meaningful by challenging them to think more creatively about where they meet”.

Technology that allows for a cultural exchange

Technologies such as, AirBnB and Lyft have all become a popular part of our culture and have all contributed to changing the way we travel. Even more, travel has become a source of cultural exchange while hosting has become the biggest trend yet, AirBnB’s Matthew Ziskie has noted. promotes the “Danish” way to meet and offers companies unique and creative options for finding better meeting spaces. According to Cultural Awareness Expert Keith Warburton of, this approach is truly Danish. He also thinks businesses in the US might benefit from the Danish way to meet:

“Denmark certainly seems to have a lot going for it. As a small country with a tiny population, the country has been able to develop an enviable level of affluence Danes have their own way of doing things, and informality is typical in business life. The cozy way of life can thus be seen in both meetings, day-to-day work and in how they approach client or supplier interaction as well as business travel. Elements like punctuality, humour and democratic exchanges rule, but informality and flexibility are essential”.

Facts and figures

What is The largest online community marketplace for listing, discovering and book meeting spaces in northern Europe with more than 3,000 meeting spaces in 10 countries combined.

How long have you existed? launched in October, 2015 in Aarhus, Denmark

What does the name mean? "Gaest" is the Danish spelling of "Guest" - and since we work with "guests" and "hosts" (and wanted to honour our Danish roots), it made perfect sense.

Why did you create We want to make it easier, faster and cheaper to meet in spaces that spark creativity, motivate interaction and encourage knowledge sharing. We believe that face-to-face meetings are highly relevant the more digital-fixated we become. And with more people than ever living in urban environments and with property prices reaching unspeakable levels, we need to rethink how and why we meet. In short, we need to make meetings matter.

What's the vision? We want to be the prefered choice for discovering, booking and listing meeting spaces.
